Our Engineers are out in the field inspecting plant and equipment day in, day out. From this experience, we have compiled a series of reports of the most common defects they find, some tips on what you can do to stay safe in between inspections and simple preventative measures. Remember, some of these defects are not only inconvenient but may in some cases be fatal to operators or those in the vicinity. The most common faults with fume or dust extraction systems, more commonly known as local exhaust ventilation (LEV).

What the listed services involve
LEV testing
A thorough examination and test checks the condition of your extraction system and measures airflow to assess how it controls exposure. For most LEV, this is required at least every 14 months under regulation 9 of the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Regulations 2002.
LEV installation
Installation involves fitting the extraction equipment and connecting it to the machines or work areas it serves. Commissioning checks its performance under working conditions and establishes measurements for comparison at later tests.
Ductwork
Ducts carry contaminated air from the capture point towards a collector or discharge point. Work on their layout, joints and condition affects airflow, access for cleaning and the build-up of material inside.
Spray booth
Spray booth work concerns the airflow and extraction used to contain and remove paint overspray and vapours. Booth condition, filters and the way spraying is carried out all affect exposure control.
Dust extraction
Dust extraction captures particles near the machine or process that releases them and carries them to a collection unit. The material being handled and the position of the capture hood affect how well it works.
Fume extraction
Fume extraction draws airborne contaminants away from a process before they spread through the workplace. Selecting suitable capture equipment and air treatment depends on the fumes or vapours produced and how the work is done.
